Andrés, cineasta de la pequeña burguesía boliviana, enfrenta una crisis de identidad que pretende resolver a través de un viaje físico y espiritual a una zona guaraní en el sur de Bolivia, en busca de la “tierra sin mal” donde supuestamente sobreviven, aislados del mundo, indígenas originarios. En ese trayecto de exploración y búsqueda es acompañado por Yari, un evolucionado guaraní que, con un pie en el mundo de los karai (blancos), ha aprendido a desconfiar de ellos. El contrapunto que ofrece el personaje de Yari a lo largo del viaje, ayuda a mostrar no solamente el pesado fardo de contradicciones que trae consigo Andrés, sino las de aquellos guaraníes que están a medio camino de una modernidad con la que mantienen una relación conflictiva de amor y odio, pues aproximarse al mundo de los karai los beneficia de alguna manera, pero los hace parecerse a ellos, perder parte de su identidad. Andrés, a middle-class Bolivian filmmaker, faces an identity crisis that he tries to resolve through a physical and spiritual journey to the Guaraní region in the south of Bolivia, searching for a "land without evil" where indigenous people supposedly still survive, isolated from the rest of the world. On this journey of exploration and searching, Andrés is accompanied by Yari, a Guaraní who, with one foot in the world of the karai (whites), has grown to distrust them. The character of Yari offers a counterpoint throughout the journey, as his presence not only reveals the heavy load of contradictions that Andrés brings with him, but also the contradictions of those Guaraní who have partially adapted to the modern world, maintaining a love-hate relationship with modernity. Joining the world of the karai benefits them in some ways, but also causes them to lose part of their Guaraní identity. (Translated by Andrew Magel)
