Un audiovisual donde se mezcla el documental y la ficción. Una foto de los años 20 es la imagen de la evocación espiritual. El Grupo Vocal Baobab interpreta los cantos tradicionales del espiritismo cubano. La voz original de la abuela Inocencia y el conjunto de fotos familiares de la realizadora Gloria Rolando, forman parte del relato cuyo objetivo es darle valor, en la historia social de Cuba, a esos pequeños y grandes pasajes de la vida cotidiana de una familia negra. "Dialogue with my grandmother" is an audiovisual where I mixed a documentary with a few moments of fiction. A dialogue between reality and imagination with some poetry from everyday life. Nature (flowers, forest, roots of trees, the leafy Ceiba, the sea, the sky, the sun) is also integrated into the language of "Dialogue with my grandmother" because each element plays its role in the visual narrative. A photo from the 20's where Inocencia appears with her first daughter (Olga America Casamayor Armas, my mother) is the image of the spiritual evocation that is represented by the voices of the Grupo Vocal Baobab. As in my other works, music is a part of the story. The Grupo Vocal Baobab (The Eyes of the Rainbow, Roots of my Heart, and 1912: Breaking the Silence) marks its identity when interpreting traditional songs of Cuban spiritism, full of energy and of, above all, great feeling. Its members are those who "call" and "receive" - at the foot of the Ancestral Shrine - images that represent the ancestors who come to talk through these memory traces: the Africans, mothers, grandmothers and grandfathers, and in general those black women whose prodigious hands were the livelihood of many families.
