A fines del siglo XIX, fueguinos fueron capturados y arrastrados a Europa para ser exhibidos como salvajes en zoológicos humanos. Entre ellos estaba Calafate, un niño selk’nam de 9 años que sobrevivió y volvió al Estrecho de Magallanes. Pero muchos nunca regresaron. Los restos de cinco fueguinos fueron parte de la colección del Departamento de Antropología de la Universidad de Zurich, hasta que en 2008, los realizadores de este documental descubrieron sus cuerpos. 125 años antes habían sido exhibidos, famélicos y moribundos, en un teatro de la ciudad. En Chile, la lucha de sus últimos descendientes por traerlos de vuelta duró dos años, hasta que en 2010 pudieron finalmente sepultarlos en el Estrecho, convirtiéndose, probablemente, en el último funeral fueguino de la historia de una etnia al borde de la extinción. In the late 19th century, Fuegians were captured and taken to Europe to be exhibited as savages in human zoos. Among them was Calafate, a 9-year-old Selk'nam boy who survived and returned to the Straits of Magellan. But many never returned. The remains of five Fuegians were part of the Department of Anthropology's collection at the University of Zurich until 2008, when the filmmakers discovered their bodies. 125 years earlier they had been exhibited, starving and dying, in a theater in the city. In Chile, the struggle of their remaining descendants to bring them back home lasted two years, until in 2010 they were finally able to bury them in the Strait, probably marking the last Fuegian funeral in the history of an ethnic group on the verge of extinction.
