In her deeply personal debut documentary feature, Tzotzil filmaker María Sojob documents the unexpected encounter between an old man, who is going blind, and his grandaughter, who has a limited memory of her childhood. As the grandfather, weaves a traditional hat, the threads of family history are untangled. Between the silences, it becomes possible to understand the meaning of love in Tzotzil. A deceptively simple film, Tote/Abuelo is a complex portrait that constrasts the point of view of a younger generation with a traditional world that was largely marginalized. (Tucson Cine Mexico)
En su primer documental profundamente personal, la cineasta tsotsil María Sojob documenta el encuentro inesperado entre un anciano, que se está quedando ciego, y su nieta, que tiene una memoria limitada de su infancia. Mientras el abuelo teje un sombrero tradicional, se van desenredando los hilos de la historia familiar. Entre los silencios, se hace posible comprender el significado del amor en tsotsil. Una pelicula simple, Tote/Abuelo es un retrato complejo que contrasta el punto de vista de una generación más joven con un mundo tradicional que fue en gran parte marginado.
