Estas cinco mujeres comparten dos identidades – el ser mujer e indígena en Abya Yala – pero radican en distintos territorios en Colombia, México, Chile y Bolivia. ¿Cuáles son algunas semejanzas y diferencias entre estas mujeres que logra captar la película? ¿Cómo crea la película un sentido de solidaridad o conexión entre las poetas? 2) Durante una discusión con Francisco Huichaqueo en febrero del 2023, el director compartió con los espectadores que para él es importante entender la película como un sueño. Añadió que él entiende esta película como cine chamánico porque produce una experiencia viva donde cohabitan sentimientos internos y sensaciones físicas. ¿Cómo te sentiste al ver la película? Piensa en tres palabras para describir tu estado emotivo y físico durante la proyección. 3) Maruch Mendez, la primera mujer que aparece en Mujeres Espíritu, comparte un “Canto para el Niño Jesús.” A lo largo de su canto la cámara nos muestra escenas de un río. Vemos como la cámara va por debajo del agua mientras avanza. ¿Qué relación o conexión hay entre el agua y la canción? 4) A lo largo de la película, las cinco mujeres son filmadas en diferentes espacios y ambientes, a medida que el espectro cromático se mueve del blanco y negro a colores más vibrantes. ¿Qué elementos se enfatizan con estos cambios de color? ¿Cómo afecta el uso del color al espectador? 5) Durante la mayor parte de la película, las mujeres recitan su poesía en lengua materna, con unas cuantas transiciones al español. ¿Por qué es importante esta preservación de la lengua materna en el contexto de los efectos que ha tenido la colonización en los pueblos originarios? ¿Se puede pensar en esta estrategia lingüística como una resistencia? ¿En qué sentido? 6) Lorena Cabnal, mujer indígena Maya-Xinxa de Guatemala, explica que el feminismo comunitario “ha sido importante para las mujeres indígenas ya que les ha permitido cuestionar los fundamentos de lo ancestral, tantas veces pensado como fijo e inamovible. Así, desde el concepto tradicional de ‘patriarcado’, [...] establece un puente �para relacionar las opresiones de las sociedades modernas con las opresiones que vienen desde antes de la colonización, en el seno de sociedades originarias” (Martínez Espinola 10). ¿Cómo se manifiesta el feminismo comunitario en Mujeres Espíritu? ¿De qué formas vemos la resistencia de las poetas floridas a sistemas patriarcales de opresión, tanto ancestrales como actuales? 7) En el artículo, “Espiritualidad indígena y participación femenina,” Myriam Sánchez indaga en el concepto de la participación de lo femenino y masculino dentro de la cosmovisión de los pueblos indígenas: “A través de los tiempos, la espiritualidad de los pueblos indígenas y la participación activa de la mujer permitió y permite establecer una permanente conexión entre género humano, naturaleza y universo” (Sanchez, 59) ¿Cuáles son 1-2 ejemplos de Mujeres Espíritu que muestran la participación de la mujer indigena en prácticas espirituales? ¿Cómo vemos esta conexión entre el ser humano, la naturaleza y el universo? 8) En una entrevista personal con Francisco Huichaqueo, conversamos sobre su proceso como director y hombre mapuche al representar cinco mujeres indígenas. Huichaqueo explicó que él quería crear un espacio donde las mujeres poetas podían compartir sus sentipensares. The way of knowing the earth is mixed with a mestizo language, where the voices of the Mapudungun acquire visibility. Kuifi ül/Sonido Antiguo (Ancient Sounds of Water) highlights the forms of racialized violence that the Mapuches continue to endure under the Chilean state in southern Chile, and their praxes of resistance, by centering the Mapuche water practices during the winter solstice in Chile. To celebrate "the return of the sun" or Wiñoy Tripantu in Mapuzugun in June each year, there is a ceremonial bathing that occurs four times for the four points of the earth. In this film, Huichaqueo captures this ceremony via reflecting upon the journey of a father and daughter who ritually renew the river on horseback. More broadly, the film also connects historical traumas and the environment as the film’s cinematography seeks to capture both the significance of the rivers for these Indigenous communities and the cosmovision of Mapuche communities. Huichaqueo asserts that this film presents Indigenous understandings of "energy" that expand our cluster’s understanding of this term to also include Indigenous epistemologies around aquatic ecosystems, the earth, the cosmic, and sustainable Indigenous ways of "futuring."
