<span>Al mirar el mapa de América, X500, un pequeño poblado en el estado de Yucatán, México, aparece justo en medio del continente. Desde este punto de vista imaginario, X500 narra la historia de 3 personajes que viven en países diferentes, pero que están unidos por su relación singular con la muerte, la migración y su necesidad de transformación. Alex es un adolescente afrocolombiano que tiene que crear una versión imaginada de su vida como polizonte en USA para justificar la derrota de volver a Buenaventura tras la muerte de su hermano y compañero de travesía. David es un indígena Mazahua que migra a Ciudad de México tras ser incapaz de enfrentar la muerte de su padre, descubriendo que su única opción para enfrentar la discriminación de ser indígena es adoptar la identidad Punk. María, es una adolescente Filipina que llega a Montreal para vivir con su abuela después de la muerte de su madre, mientras transforma el imaginario que tenía de vivir en el norte. Desde ese lugar X500 sigue a estos tres adolescentes por tres países, viviendo tres duelos y encontrando tres formas de seguir adelante. <span>Hermano<em>, which means brother in Spanish, literally concerns a pair of brothers from La Ceniza, an impoverished town outside of Caracas, Venezuela with both a solid local soccer club and rampant gang violence. Daniel (Fernando Moreno) and Julio (Eliú Armas) are the two best players on La Ceniza’s team, and their excellence attracts a scout from the Caracas Fútbol Club, notably the most popular and successful side in Venezuela’s professional league. At only 16, Daniel is a promising goal-scorer and impressionable virgin, while the eldest is the captain and family breadwinner by means of organized skullduggery. Being drafted by Caracas would be their ticket out of the barrio, of course, but the plan is jeopardized early on when their mother is accidentally shot by another gang member and Daniel becomes an inadvertent and unknown witness. This happens just as we’re getting to know Daniel and Julio, and the family dynamics are still developing. Sudden and utterly shocking, it sets the stage for Julio’s lust for revenge. <em>The story of Agustín (Tin) Delgado, one of the top players in the history of Ecuadorian soccer, is the focus of this documentary directed by the journalist and social communicator Rodolfo Muñoz, who investigates racism against Afro-Ecuadorians. The main topic of the film is a disciplinary scandal that ocurred during a soccer game between Guayaquil's Barcelona team and the University League of Quito, which ended in the one-year suspension of the league's veteran player, who was just coming off an excellent performance with the Ecuadorian national team in Germany's 2006 World Cup. Through interviews with family members, leaders, and journalists, as well as several recreations and some fictionalizations, Muñoz tells the story of the player from Chota, a region whose population has a high percentage of Black people. The film ultimately concludes that the success of the primarily Afro-Ecuadorian team in the World Cup only served to briefly cover up the history of racism in Ecuador, and that the subsequent incident with Delgado brought the issue of racism back to the forefront, through the impertinent and excessive punishment imposed on the player. Furthermore, Delgado would not have helped himself if he had criticized the leaders of the Ecuadorian soccer establishment or had demanded the rewards promised to the Ecuadorian team for their performance in the World Cup and never paid. The title "Red Card" plays with two forms of expulsion: social/racial, as well as the meaning used in soccer. The film explores a theme that has been repeated in various countries across the continent and the world: the complex process of identification and potential frustration with sports idols. And if these relationships are imbued with strong racial connotations, the situation becomes even more complex, introducing elements into this strange love-hate game that reflect the weaknesses of societies that do not recognize, and therefore do not confront, their own racism. In 1970, Brazil and the world seem to be in chaos, facing numerous political crises. But the biggest worry in the life of Mauro, a 12-year old middle class boy from Minas Gerais who loves soccer, has little to do with the military dictatorship that is ruling the nation. His greatest desire is to see Brazil be the three-time world soccer champion. Suddenly, he finds himself separated from his parents, who 'go on holiday'. Mauro goes to live at his grandfather’s house whom he barely knows and is forced to adapt to a very strange and fun community: the Bom Retiro, a neighborhood in São Paulo that shelters Jews and Italians, among other cultures.
